3 Ways to Get an Identity Upgrade and Change Your Bad Habits for Good

I confess that I’m an extreme early bird.

And by extreme, I mean that I get up at 4:00 am.


Believe it or not, I don’t do this to punish myself. In fact, I’ve been doing this for so long that now my body won’t even let me sleep past 4:00.

So what does a crazy person who gets up this early do at that ungodly hour?

  • I have a leisurely cup of coffee in total silence and peace.
  • I read something inspiring to set the tone for my day.
  • I visualize my goals being achieved and what that looks like.
  • I plan my day to align with those goals.

The amazing part is that I don’t have to force myself to do any of these things. That’s because my identity as a morning person makes these habits automatic.

And guess what? The same thing goes for your bad habits.

For example, if you have a hard time making time for exercise, could it be that one of your identities is “workaholic”? Or are you struggling with changing your habit of eating dessert after every meal because you’re “a sweets person”?

This is critical because it may not be obvious that an identity is even remotely related to what you’re doing. But once you figure it out, changing your bad habits becomes a breeze.
