My kids love to take pictures of me when I’m not looking. And it’s horrible.
They sometimes go all out and put on a hideous filter . . . and if I’m not careful they’ll post it to their Instagram.
If you can relate, it’s not vanity that’s happening here. It’s cultural brainwashing.
We all know this, but it doesn’t stop us from picking ourselves apart in the mirror, living in terror at the natural process of aging. And it doesn’t stop us from crash dieting to get the perfect body.
It’s ironic, but by doing these things, we get the opposite of what we’re looking for.
We overdo it with makeup, skin treatments, and plastic surgery – and we make ourselves look older. We crash diet to lose weight – and we binge to neutralize the resistance and gain more weight.
So what’s the solution? You (and I) have to shift from a fear-based mindset to one of self-acceptance.
Easier said than done, right?
